Legal English Course (3rd edition)

Hieronymus is again organizing a Legal English Course in collaboration with the Geneva Young Lawyer's Association (www.jeunebarreau.ch) in January 2012. The aim of the course is to aid legal professionals needing to explain concepts of Swiss Law in English to foreign clients and colleagues, through the study of the legal terminology specific to the main Swiss legal concepts, as well as a comparative study of the main differences with the Common Law. Connext: the legal career fair

This year's edition of Connext, Switzerland's only career fair dedicated solely to law students and young jurists and attorneys, took place at the University of Zurich on 9 November 2011. This year's edition was a great success, with over one thousand sudents and young legal professionals visiting the stands and taking part in the workshops and presentations offered by over 30 Swiss and international law firms, companies, government agencies, NGO's and universities. SAV/FSA Anwaltskongress

We are pleased to announce that as of January 2011, Hieronymus is an official partner of the Anwaltskongress, the largest bi-annual gathering of Swiss lawyers, organized by the Schweizerischer Anwaltsverband (Swiss Bar Association), which will take place 23-25 June 2011 in Lucerne.

During the Conference, we will be giving two workshops based on our Legal English Course. Because explaining Swiss law to English speakers can be challenging and problems come up not only in finding the right words, but also in explaining concepts for which there is no equivalent in Common Law, the workshops will give examples and suggest ways of avoiding confusion and ambiguities as well as present some tools for helping Swiss legal practitioners in this regard. Examples will be taken from the Swiss Civil Code for the first workshop, and from the Swiss Code of Obligations (in particular, contract law and corporate law) for the second.

After the success of Connext 2010, organized by Hieronymus at the University of Lucerne, we're excited to announce that the 2011 edition of Connext will take place on 9 November 2011 at the University of Zurich. As the date approaches we'll have more information available on our Connext website.

Connext - the legal career fair is the first career fair in Switzerland focused solely on legal professions and aimed at law students and recent graduates as well as young lawyers (before or after their LL.M.).
